What makes it effective for maintaining your database?
WP-Optimize holds a key role in WPDistrib, primarily for its ability to keep the WordPress database clean and healthy. It removes unnecessary elements that accumulate over time (revisions, auto drafts, transients, etc.), and can also detect residual tables left behind by uninstalled plugins — a feature still too rare among plugins similar to WP-Optimize.
How is WP-Optimize installed and configured by default?
WP-Optimize is preinstalled in WPDistrib. It’s accessible under Tools > WP-Optimize with no extra configuration needed.
Image compression is enabled by default to reduce visual weight upon upload. To ensure proper WebP conversion, your server must support PHP libraries like GD, ImageMagick, or GraphicsMagick — all of which are activated in WPDistrib.
However, caching and minification are not activated by default. These are optional and can be enabled depending on your performance goals.
Should you enable image compression?
WP-Optimize’s built-in compression is sufficient for smaller or early-stage websites. It supports WebP and is active by default in WPDistrib, but can be disabled if another solution is used.
What about the built-in caching feature?
WP-Optimize includes page caching, mobile options, and minification settings. These are disabled by default in WPDistrib, as some users may prefer alternatives like LiteSpeed Cache or WP Rocket. These will be reviewed in a dedicated article on alternatives to WP-Optimize for caching.
